services. Interstate 40 and Interstate 35 the
areas main transportation arteries make
it easy to stop over in Eastern Oklahoma County.
Communities in Eastern Oklahoma County joined together
several years ago to promote and develop tourism in
our area. Special events such as, Holiday Lights Spectacular,
Global Oklahoma, Choctaws Oktoberfest and Land-Run
Festivals are just a few outstanding family-fun oriented
events in Eastern Oklahoma County.
In 1997, EOCTC created the Star Spangled Salute Independence
Day celebration. The event was combined with the Tinker
Air Force Base Open House event, creating a partnership
with Tinker Air Force Base to have one family-fun oriented
event in Eastern Oklahoma County.
The 2008 Star Spangled Salute
will take place on May 24. Admission is free, and
takes place at Tinker Air Force Base. Pre-Events
for participants, volunteers and sponsors begin on May
10.
Tinker Air Force Base organizes the event through the
Star Spangled Salute Committee comprised of Team Tinker,
members of Eastern Oklahoma Tourism Council as well
as members of Aerospace America.
The efforts of Eastern Oklahoma County Tourism, Tinker
Air Force Base and Aerospace America have successfully
created one of the best Air Acts entertainment event
in the State of Oklahoma.
This partnership has presented an opportunity for the
communities in Eastern Oklahoma County to show their
pride of patriotism while celebrating America's independence.
It is a true Eastern Oklahoma County tradiiton.
The addition of the Air Show to the Star Spangled Salute
event has proved to make great visitor impact on our
communities . This event has become one of Oklahoma's
premier events and has been awarded the 2007 Event of
the Year Award by Frontier Country Marketing Association,
the marketing organization for all of Central Oklahoma!
